It all started with the blues

In 2015, I gave birth to my little girl. I was in my twenties then, not yet ready to slow down from the corporate rhythm. I didn’t know what to expect from motherhood, so I treated it like a challenge that needed to be conquered. But instead, motherhood broke me. And very soon, I found myself immersed in the baby blues.

Feeling broken, I wandered into new hobbies and things, collecting pieces of myself. And then I wandered into tulle. My baby and I, we dressed in matching tulle skirts for fun, and that’s when we connected light-heartedly, happily. For a moment there, I felt whole. It was a moment of love, connection, and forgiving myself.

Through my writing and work with tulle, here is where I share the whole story with you, as it unfolds. This is my craft. I hope you stay and read for a while.

And then we grew

2016 - Bluish officially started. Our first ever appearance was at the Baby Show in Toronto. Because of our stunning pop-up display, we were featured on Breakfast Television. Afterwards, we hosted a series of pop-ups at all Pottery Barn locations in Toronto.

2017 - Canada’s favourite lifestyle store, Indigo, began carrying our products. Fun fact: our bestselling tutu, the Baby Charlotte is still available on Indigo.ca today! We continued our pop-up events and expanded our presence in major mall events and holiday markets.

2018 - Looking back, Bluish did not perform well that year. Out of habit, we continued with pop-up events in major malls until the end of the year, although that model no longer worked for us. But loyal customers and supporters continued to follow our story and kept us going.

2019 - Up until this point, Bluish was a side hustle. Sarah ran the business mostly by herself while balancing her day time responsibilities as a professional accountant. Sarah decided to leave her corporate job that year and pivot Bluish to a fully e-commerce model.

2020 - Covid turned things upside down. Sarah auditioned for Dragons’ Den to tell her story. To her surprise, she was invited to pitch on the show. While 9 months pregnant, she pitched with her daughter and received an offer from Arlene. Sarah gave birth exactly one month later.

2021 onwards - Bluish grew rapidly while our vision and approach became clear: Bluish is here to connect with people through muted experiences of joy and heartbreak, where words are hard to reach. We embrace the human approach. And we foster creativity.

You are creative, too.
