  • Sizing: 1-3T measures approximately 10.5 inches long and the waist stretches from about 15 inches to 24 inches. It typically starts to fit when the child can sit independently, around 6 months. 3-5T measures approximately 12.5 inches long and the waist stretches from about 16 inches to 26 inches. 5-7Y measures approximately 14.5 inches long and the waist stretches from about 17 inches to 28 inches. If your child is at the overlap age, go for the bigger size unless you prefer a shorter tutu (which is really cute!).

  • The tutu was designed by Sarah in Canada using simple materials. The tutu skirt was made by Amanda’s team in China. The appliques were hand stitched by Monica in Canada. Sarah is the person behind Bluish, Amanda is Sarah’s dear friend and a mom of two boys, and Monica is the mother of Sarah’s best friend and an adored seamstress. We take care of the people who make your tutu.

  • I wanted to make a tutu with butterflies. Not just for decorative purposes, but butterflies that would capture their subtle beauty and the rhythm of the wind. I started with organza. It’s a material I’ve been using more and more of. It’s light and airy like tulle, but slightly less porous and embodies a natural, subtle sheen. As for the shape of the butterfly, I wanted the details to show: the subtle antennae, curves and edges, and intricate webbing on the wings. Using chiffon by itself was not enough, it was too subtle to show off those details. The butterflies needed a bit of a backbone. It was very important to me that we keep these tutus as soft as possible, so I searched for a solution that would add just enough structure to give the butterflies character. I decided to go with embroidered organza as a base, and then added chiffon butterflies on top in slightly contrasting colours. The embroidered organza gave the butterflies the detail and “bone” I was looking for, meanwhile the chiffon butterflies on top were light enough to flutter. And that’s how we made our very first Mila.
